The section of the Cadillac Break held by the Company has not been explored because of technical obstacles presented by a localized cover of Proterozoic (younger) sediments and the perception that the depth of cover precluded effective exploration. This 35 km long section contains syenite intrusions either within or immediately adjacent to the 'Break' that are partially to completely obscured by the cover.(See Project Area) (Read Property Summary) These sediments, locally referred to as the Kekeko and Kanasuta Hills now form a rolling ridge rooted in an ancient valley of variable but at times challenging depth. The resulting surface barrier extends eastward from the 11+ million-ounce Kerr Addison Mine at Virginiatown, Ontario, to the western boundaries of the Noranda camp. See "Project Map" and "Table of Project and Prospects" for the project area geology and a summary of deposits and significant showings.
The area immediately north of the Break is host to numerous shear-hosted gold showings and small deposits, several of which have been explored intermittently over several decades. These often occupy complex second-order structures capable of carrying large tonnages of high-value ores. A few, such as the Francoeur, Wasamac and Arntfield, have seen limited production amounting to about 1.5 million ounces in total. In addition, the area is prospective for synvolcanic rhyolite-hosted VMS base metal deposits. The Horne 'mine unit' extends through the nearby Aldermac Mine which produced 34,000 tons of copper from 2.1 million tons of ore. The favourable trace of this unit crosses a block of the Company's claims where further exploration is merited.
Commencing in 2004 the Company has conducted geophysical and lithogeochemical surveys to assist in identifying drill targets on the Cadillac Break. By far the greatest expenditure has been on core drilling, where in three campaigns the Company completed 30 holes for an aggregate of 17,421 meters on staked and optioned claims, of which 9404 meters or about 54% was drilled on the Break in nine holes.
Strong initial results on optioned claims were not supported by subsequent follow-up drilling and the ground was relinquished. Drilling of geochemical and geophysical targets on the Break itself has not yet identified economic mineralization though a great deal of previously unknown geological data was obtained. The Company is confident that the potential for discovery remains strong, and it is currently investigating alternate geophysical and geochemical methods by which to improve drill targeting.
